Contingency plans were introduced last year when Healthcare Environmental Services was no longer able to provide waste collection services to NHS Boards across Scotland. The plans are in place to ensure that there is no adverse impact on NHS Services and that public health is protected.
As agreed with NHSScotland health boards, Tradebe Healthcare has adopted a phased introduction in their delivery of healthcare waste management services, which commenced on 2 August. While Tradebe is already delivering on components of the contract, the recently opened site at Bellshill will allow Tradebe to take on the full contract and treat the majority of healthcare waste in Scotland.
National Services Scotland (NSS) will continue its support until such times as the new national healthcare waste management services are fully operational.
