Doctor Nicola Steedman has been appointed to the position of NSS Medical Director of Procurement, Commissioning and Facilities (PCF), following a formal recruitment exercise.
Outgoing PCF Medical Director Mike Winter retires this summer, after nearly 40 years’ service to NHSScotland, with the last 11 years spent in National Services Scotland (NSS).
Nicola joins the PCF team from the Scottish Government, where she held the post of Senior Medical Officer, advising the Chief Medical Officer and Ministers on a variety of public health topics from pandemic flu to CJD vaccination programmes. In 2015/16, Nicola also acted as Deputy Chief Medical Officer.
Nicola has been seconded on a part time basis to NSS since 2017, as ISD National Clinical lead for Maternity and Reproductive Health Data. Over the last few years she has managed to balance these roles whilst still continuing her clinical work as a consultant in GUM with a particular interest in management of HIV.
Originally from Belfast, Nicola studied in England completing her pre-clinical training at Cambridge University and her clinical training at Oxford University, training as a general acute physician specialising in Genitourinary and HIV Medicine.
