The Scottish Wide Area Network (SWAN) has launched a dynamic new website which makes it easier to find out more about the benefits of SWAN.
As one of the most significant single public sector ICT initiatives ever undertaken in Scotland, SWAN is delivered through a contract which is managed by NSS Digital and Security and delivered by Capita. SWAN provides:
• a dedicated network for Scotland’s public sector
• increased security
• better connectivity and performance
• reduced costs and value for money
• access to world class services
SWAN was set up in response to the findings of the Scottish Government’s 2011 McClelland Report which identified that radical changes were required in how technology was adopted and deployed to allow for an "era of sharing in ICT that will offer better value and meet the needs of individual organisations and their customers."
More than 80 public sector organisations use SWAN, including the Scottish Government, Scottish Qualification Agency, Historic Environment Scotland and the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, all 22 boards across NHS Scotland as well as 50% of local authorities – with many more new members regularly coming on board. The network connects around 6000 sites (including more than 3000 NHS sites) and has to date delivered £30million of savings for the Scottish public sector.
