National Procurement has today distributed more than 3million individual items of PPE to dental practices across Scotland.
These supplies are currently en-route to 14 territorial boards for onward distribution to over 1,100 dental practices throughout Scotland. This vital equipment will help to safeguard our colleagues in the dental community and patients – ready to use when it’s safe to resume dental services.
This latest distribution again demonstrates NP’s commitment to go beyond our traditional remit to support the wider public health community. It follows recent large scale deliveries of critical supplies to partner groups such as General Practitioners, Adult Care Homes and eye care providers.
Paul Cushley, NHS National Services Scotland – Director of Dentistry has worked in partnership with Director of Procurement, Gordon Beattie and his team, to ensure the dental community have the supplies they need.
Paul said: “Today, we have managed to send out 3 months’ worth of PPE to get dentists up and running, when it is agreed that they can reopen.
“For me, it's been a real eye opener – in the sense, I know about the whole family within NSS and all the different units and how they all contribute. But actually, to see the best of National Procurement has been inspiring.
“Throughout what has been an extremely challenging time – we’ve seen a real Dunkirk spirit from everyone which has been magnificent.
“When we get back to treating patients – we will be going back to a brave new world – with greater integration of dentistry into family health.
“Good old fashioned, routine dental care for the community will be at the heart of the way forward – which will be of benefit to both the public and the dentist profession.”
