eDental payment transition update – April 2018
We advised in the March update that the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) service would cease on 31 March 2018. The EDI server is now in the process of being decommissioned.
Any submissions received via EDI will now be rejected. Submissions will only be accepted via eDental.
The team would like to extend their thanks to all those involved in moving across before the end of March deadline. The eDental transition team has now been disbanded and eDental has become part of our business as usual activities.

The volume of eDental rejections in our payment system, MIDAS, is less than with EDI and paper. However, a number of claims are being unnecessarily rejected, and our team are required to review these claims. These are primarily where practices are providing observations where they are not required and this leads to a delay in the processing of these claims through to payment.
All existing practice management system (PMS) suppliers are now accredited for eDental payments.
The live early adopter pilot phase is continuing with web form users and we have received 40 prior approval requests to date. We have approved 30 of these requests, with the others at varying stages of the process. We are collating feedback from the dentists who have submitted prior approval requests via the web form and are reviewing internally.
One PMS supplier is nearing the end of the accreditation phase. Once successfully complete, they will move to beta testing with a few practices. Each supplier must undertake fit for purpose testing and e-prior approval accreditation testing before they can roll the changes out to their customers. A number of other suppliers have now provided delivery dates for their development for the ePrior Approval changes.

All prior approval requests must be submitted electronically from 1 October 2018 and paper requests will no longer be accepted beyond that date.
If your PMS supplier is not ready in time for 1 October 2018, you'll need a web form account in order to submit Prior Approval requests. You will need to allow for a lead time of around two weeks to complete the required paperwork and turnaround your user account.
eOrtho payment and approval
We are continuing our development and testing for electronic Orthodontic payment and prior approval, with the intention of being ready to begin supplier testing in September 2018.
One of the orthodontic specialist PMS suppliers and two general PMS suppliers have committed to developing eOrtho payment and approval.
An Orthodontic specialist day has been planned for Monday 16 April 2018, to be held at our offices in Gyle Square, Edinburgh.

You are reminded that paper submissions for Orthodontic Prior Approval requests and payments will no longer be accepted after 1 January 2019.
