Tissues and cells

Co-ordination, collection, processing, testing, storage and supply of human tissues and cells. For use in surgery and patient care.

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) is also responsible for supplying human tissues and cells for transplantation in Scotland.

Donated tissues such as bone, heart valves, tendons, skin and corneas are vital for numerous operations that help improve the quality of life for recipients, and can also be life-saving.

SNBTS works in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to support the organ and tissue donation programme in Scotland and the wider UK to ensure that the clinical demand is met.
