Our Digital and Security team has provided crucial digital solutions to support the fight against COVID-19, right across NHSScotland and beyond.

As part of the early response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Digital and Security team rapidly developed an online portal for health boards to request critical PPE supplies. The portal was designed to make it quicker and easier for health board procurement teams during COVID-19, with health boards able to track the status at any time.

We built on this capability by introducing other portals, including a social care portal for Scottish care homes to access testing for staff and residents

We’re supporting the Scottish Government’s Test and Protect strategy in a number of ways, such as:

  • delivering a digital platform and software for Test and Protect
  • working with partners to ensure data and reporting can be securely shared as needed
  • helping to set up the National Contact Tracing Centre

We also accelerated the national rollout of Microsoft Teams in response to COVID-19. Teams, which forms part of the Office365 suite, is now live across all of Scotland’s health boards, and across frontline health services including NHS24, Public Health Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Our Digital and Security team led the fast-tracked rollout, which has allowed NHSScotland colleagues to securely communicate and collaborate. The team has also provided expert technical support and training to help colleagues embrace the technology and respond rapidly to the significant changes in clinical practice that have been required to help save lives during this national crisis.

Alongside this, we continue to focus on efforts to combat cybersecurity threats and online fraud, working closely with Counter Fraud Services colleagues.
