eDental payment and approval modernisation was introduced for NHS dentistry in Scotland in 2017 to align general dental services to the national eHealth strategies.

This replaces the existing Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) service to deliver a range of improvements around clinical decision-making, patient and practitioner experience, risk management, operational efficiency and financial governance.

The streamlined and improved payment processes will reduce errors, provide electronic communications and increase data quality where possible. It will also introduce electronic prior approval for practices whether or not they have a dental practice management system. This will also offer the ability to upload electronic attachments, such as radiographs.

Updates on the project can be found in our latest update.
