Who is eligible for the Scottish Scheme?

Details on who is eligible for support from the Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme.

The scheme provides support to people who were infected, as well as members of their immediate family in cases where the infected person has died.

People infected by Hepatitis C and/or HIV, and their families

This includes people who received an infection as a result of treatment and were infected by Hepatitis C and/or HIV via NHS blood, blood products or tissue in the UK, and a resident in Scotland. 

Also included are people who received the infection from someone who falls into the above group, under one of the following circumstances:

  • they are, or were, the spouse or civil partner of the person from whom the virus was transmitted
  • they are, or were, living with the person from whom the virus was transmitted as partners in a long-term relationship
  • they are the child of an infected mother.
